Seeking Him First
SCRIPTURE
For who can eat or enjoy anything apart from him? God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him.
-Ecclesiastes 2:25-26a
OBSERVATION
In the preceding chapter and verses, King Solomon concludes that "everything is meaningless." Pursuing wisdom was futile. Seeking pleasure was futile. The end result of wisdom was the same as foolishness, "For the wise and the foolish both die. (Ecclesiastes 2:16a). So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless - like chasing the wind (verse 17)."
Then he asks the profound question of "who can eat or enjoy anything apart from Him?" Everything starts and ends with God so pursuing anything apart from Him is folly. If we truly desire anything than it must go through Him first.
APPLICATION
If I want wisdom, knowledge, and/or joy in my life I need to please God first.
PRAYER
Almighty God,
Rebuke me for anything I may have pursued apart from You. I need to prioritize You above anything else. It has been difficult lately waiting for something to happen and then proceed to move forward. However, I just need to trust in You with all my heart, and lean not on my own understanding. Your ways are higher than my ways, and Your timing is always perfect. I lay down my life to live only for You. Thank You for Your abundant blessings.
Amen
