Proverbs 21 Devotion

SCRIPTURE
People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart.
Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin.
It's better to live alone in the corner of an attic than with a quarrelsome wife in a lovely home.
It's better to live alone in the desert than with a quarrelsome, complaining wife.
-verses 2,4,9, and 19

OBSERVATION
I think it is best not to take verses 9 and 19 literally and have my sisters get offended 😓 I interpret these verses as saying "do not live with a companion who is quarrelsome and constantly complaining." For example, I currently live with my father and he can be really difficult to live with sometimes 😖 Especially during the times when his nagging is non-stop and is very inconsiderate. The question needs to be asked, WHY are they like that? Verses 2 and 4, "People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart. ...Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin." It all comes down to sin, but to me the answer in one word is PRIDE.

APPLICATION
I need to examine my own heart, my motivations, and be careful with my actions. Pride can come out in unexpected ways, and can be often unrecognizable. That is why I need to consistently be spending time with God and have a right relationship with Him. Only He can expose my sins when I am too blind to see them. I need to draw into His holiness and righteousness on a daily basis.

PRAYER
I'm giving you my heart, and all that is within
I lay it all down, for the sake of You my King
I'm giving You my dreams, laying down my rights
Giving up my pride, for the promise of new life

And I surrender, all to You

I'm singing You this song, waiting at the cross
All the world holds dear, I count it all as loss
For the sake of knowing You, for the glory of Your Name
To know the lasting joy, even sharing in Your pain

And I surrender, all to You
