The Village
Note: This is NOT a review of the film. There are spoilers contained in this post that will ruin the movie for anyone who has not seen it yet. You have been warned ;-)
I saw The Village the other day, and left the movie feeling a bit disappointed. I have to agree with someone's review of the movie as "you'll either love it or hate it." First of all, I must say that M. Night Shyamalan is a good director. None of his movies suffer from bad directing. You either like his movies b/c of the stories he tells, or you don't like his movies b/c you didn't like the story.
Now The Village falls in the later category for me. I did like what he was trying to say. I just did not like the way he said it. One thing about the movie though, the creature in the movie WAS scary! Very original. But the rest of the movie was... Well, I saw the twist coming half-way through the film. I won't give it away, but it's not like The Sixth Sense or Unbreakable. I haven't seen Signs so I don't how good that movie is. Going back to The Village, the twist seemed to be reaching too much to be a twist. I have to wonder if it can actually happen.
Well, I guess this was a review of the movie :-P It wasn't meant to be. I just wanted to say that M. Night Shyamalan is a good director and that I look forward to his future movies. Hopefully he doesn't get caught up with his critics and try to do too much. Also I hope he doesn't become another commercialized movie director. I hope that he stays an artist, trying to express himself through his films.
Well, till next time.
